SB1 street resurfacing projects
The council approved state-funded street resurfacing projects using SB1 gas tax money — cape seal treatments in Districts 2, 4, and 6 and mill and overlay work in Districts 2, 4, 5, and 6, plus a citywide pavement repair project. Expect smoother streets in those districts.
Unfunded Capital Projects and Deferred Maintenance
Roads came up again and again as residents' top complaint, and the city manager put the infrastructure need at close to a billion dollars. Council members floated an infrastructure tax, asset sales, and smarter city investment partnerships as possible funding paths.
San Joaquin Regional Transit District Board Appointments
The council split 4-3 to seat Saiha San on the RTD board after rejecting Balwinder Singh, who had 12 years on the board. Dissenters warned RTD is in leadership turmoil and needs experienced hands; supporters valued new community representation.
Truck access and congestion on Arch Airport Road
A new right-out driveway for the county-approved Maverick gas station got the green light despite safety worries — it's only about 800 feet from the Highway 99 on-ramp and near Venture Academy students.
RTD bus service disruption and governance dispute
Last week's regional bus shutdown stranded riders for hours, and it turned into a council spat — the mayor blasted the disruption while Vice Mayor Lee accused her of hijacking an item Lee had agendized in December and of a conflict over SJCOG transit funding.
